Carl Anderson

About The Artist

Carl Anderson is an American singer-songwriter hailing from Charlottesville, VA. His soulful, raw sound transgresses many musical genres. His EP, “Twenty- Something Blues” conveys his innate songwriting talent with a tone wistful longing that sounds too deeply steeped in experience to have been written by the twenty-two year old artist. Undoubtedly heart wrenching tunes such as “You Were Crying,” will appeal to fans of Mumford and Sons, Ray Lamontagne, and City & Colour. Anderson’s music is, however, distinctly American. Flavors of bluegrass, country, and folk music permeate his sound, honed from his past stints playing with Carleigh Nesbit and the Roosevelts. Carl has also supported the Infamous Stringdusters and Yarn, artists well known among the bluegrass circuit, and played the main stage at “The Festy Experience” music festival in October.

In 2009 he went to Nashville and scored a publishing deal with Ash Street Music. He quit his job as a waiter and threw around the idea of moving to Nashville to write songs full time. While his time in Nashville was in many ways rewarding, he decided that living in Tennessee and writing for the radio inevitably wasn’t going to make him truly happy. After releasing his first solo EP “Twenty-Something Blues” (recorded at Little Rhodie Productions in Crozet, VA) he decided it was time for a full-length record. The recording of “Wolftown” at White Star Sound in Louisa, VA was a culmination of creative and artistic minds working as a single-minded entity, and, together with, Dave Stipe (Little Rhodie Productions), Stewart Myers (engineer and former bass player of Agents of good Roots), Chris Keup (White Star Sound) and several of Charlottesville’s best musicians, Carl has created his “dream” record.

    Press Quotes

“The musician...stumbled into his early twenties with an aching–- for music, for freedom, for direction. And, as so many greats do, he channeled that angst into art, resulting in a tender, acoustic, americana and roots collection of songs” – Stephanie Garcia - The Hook (Charlottesville, VA)

“This October, Carl’s “dream album” will come out, and while I haven’t heard it yet, I know it will be good. His music is a little like Tom Petty or Justin Townes Earle, musicians he greatly admire, but it also calls to mind a young Dylan for me – lyrically driven, story-based, thoughtful. This makes sense given Carl’s investment in the singer-songwriter idea rather than a singer or a group. He likes the stories more than the sound, it seems, and while he can sing and play, it’s his stories that hooked me.” – AndyLit.com

“Anderson effortlessly conveys an honesty that is rare among today’s young musicians. His sound combines the comfort and familiarity of classic country with surprising new melodies and unassuming yet poetic lyrics.” – Cville Niche Buzz

“These astonishingly mature and brilliantly written songs are captured by a totally fresh performance. Rarely does such a raw and creative artist find such a refined sound. You listen to Carl and you can't help but understand the influence certain artists have had, such as Joe Pug, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and Ryan Adams. However, Carl Anderson makes his own mark establishing a new sound that is sure to influence others down the road.” – Randy Castleman - Plancast
